Kenya Watson – Her Clarity Helped Her Son Graduate

Graduate’s name: Kenya Watson

Name of school or program: Parents for Public Schools Parent Engagement Program (PEP – Class of 2015)

Why you’re honoring this graduate:

“Dr. Seuss could have been speaking directly to the 2015 Parents for Public Schools Parent Engagement Program (PEP) Class graduates when he wrote, ‘Congratulations! Today is your day. You are off to Great Places! You are off and away!’

“We, at Parents for Public Schools, want to congratulate our 2015 PEP parent graduates. We appreciate their commitment to attend the rigorous four-day education program and encourage them to take what they learn to help their students and other parents.

“The time devoted to training is already paying off for one mother. Because of the timely information Kenya Watson learned while enrolled in PEP, her son was able to graduate from high school this year. Kenya, already an active parent in her child’s school district, credits PEP for access to more content and clarity in how to be effective in her dialogue with school personnel.

“We love seeing both mom and son, ‘indeed succeed.'”

Honored by: Nita Rudy of Parents for Public Schools. The organization, which has its main office in Jackson, Mississippi, works to strengthen public schools.
