What is the Equal Voice Coalition?

The Coalition is an effort by Marguerite Casey Foundation and its grantees — more than 225 local, regional and national nonprofit organizations working with families in the poorest areas of the country – to support a family-led movement that advocates on behalf of families and advance the Equal Voice National Family Platform, which was created by working families.

How will the Coalition do this work?

Marguerite Casey Foundation and its grantees have held 65 town hall meetings in 12 states, as well as three Equal Voice national conventions. In Feb., 2009, Coalition members presented its Equal Voice for America Family Issues Platform to lawmakers in Washington, D.C.

In October 2009, Coalition members held a policy convening in San Francisco to learn new ways of advancing policy that ensures the economic well-being of families.

In their communities, Coalition members are actively working to improve the lives of families by advocating for improved health care, education opportunities and numerous other issues.

The Coalition’s newspaper, Equal Voice: America’s Family Story, keeps members connected to one another, up to date on activities around the country and apprised of progress on the eight interlaced issues identified in its Family Issues Platform.
