Homeless Prevention and Re-Housing

Advisory Team Created to Help Communities Navigate Grant Process

Who: Governor Bill Richardson's Office

Created the Competitive Grant Advisory Team, comprised of diverse New Mexicans from around the state to meet with and inform local communities in New Mexico about upcoming competitive grant opportunities created by the national stimulus package and to encourage and empower communities to apply. An economic stimulus summit for cities and counties to get timely, detailed information on specific funding possibilities in the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Presenters include the Florida Department of Community Affairs, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Governor’s Energy Office, the Florida Department of Children and Families, the Florida Department of Management Services, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR HOMELESS PREVENTION & RAPID RE-HOUSING PROGRAMS

Who: Washington Department of Community, Trade, and Economic Development (CTED)
What: Accepting applications for grants to be distributed from the $11 million federal stimulus dollars allocated to Washington for the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program.
Goals:

-Provide short-term or medium-term rental assistance and housing relocation and stabilization services, including security or utility deposits, utility payments, moving cost assistance, and case management.
-Target individuals and families who would be homeless but for this assistance.

Funding through the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program is available for low-income families to reduce heating and cooling costs by improving the energy efficiency of their homes. Measures may include: weather-stripping and caulking; insulating attics and walls; furnace work; repairing windows and doors; and replacing windows, if needed.

MISSISSIPPI GOVERNOR SEEKS INPUT ON STIMULUS SPENDING

Who: Governor Haley Barbour's Office
What: Seek brief ideas or concept proposals with innovative ways to use a portion of Mississippi's employment and training funds.
Goals:

-Build partnerships to address workforce needs of businesses and training needs of workers.
-Identify strategies for high-demand industry sectors in local areas.
-Enable low-income, displaced, and under-skilled adults to acquire the knowledge and skills for success in high-growth industry.
-Identify regional approaches to couple workforce development with the local economic development strategies.
-Meet immediate and/or long-term needs for trained workers in demand occupations.
-Target projects at groups who are not currently fully engaged in the workforce.
-Implement online training programs which will target high-growth occupations.

How to apply:

Submit brief ideas or proposals that demonstrate how the idea or concept will assist the state in meeting the goals. Submissions are limited to five single-sided, double-spaced pages on 8.5 x 11 inch paper.
