MISSISSIPPI GOVERNOR SEEKS INPUT ON STIMULUS SPENDING

Who: Governor Haley Barbour's Office
What:

Seeks brief ideas or concept proposals with innovative ways to use a portion of Mississippi's employment and training funds.

Goals:

-Build partnerships to address workforce needs of businesses and training needs of workers;
-Identify strategies for high-demand industry sectors in local areas;
-Enable low-income, displaced, and under-skilled adults to acquire the knowledge and skills for success in high-growth industries;
-Identify regional approaches to couple workforce development with the local economic development strategies;
-Meet immediate and/or long-term needs for trained workers in demand occupations;
-Target projects at groups who are not currently fully engaged in the workforce;
-Implement online training programs which will target high-growth occupations;

How to apply:

Submit brief ideas or proposals that demonstrate how the idea or concept will assist the state in meeting the goals. Submissions are limited to five single-sided, double-spaced pages on 8.5 x 11 inch paper.

FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND RAPID RE-HOUSING IN NEW MEXICO

Who: New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA)
What:

Soliciting proposals from qualified governmental entities and non-profit organizations to receive funding through the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program.

Goals:

-To provide homelessness prevention assistance to households who would otherwise become homeless;
-To provide assistance to rapidly re-house persons who are homeless;
-To make assistance available throughout New Mexico, to residents of all counties; and
-To make assistance available to all populations in need of assistance.

WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES IN ALABAMA, ARKANSAS AND NEW MEXICO

Alabama

Who: Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs
What:

Funding is available for low-income families to weatherize their homes by installing measures that cut energy costs. Eligible applicants have their houses tested to determine what weatherization measures are needed to maximize energy efficiency. Improvements typically include adding insulation, reducing air leaks by improving windows, doors and vents, and servicing heating and cooling systems. Health and safety diagnostic services also are provided.

How to apply:

Individuals and families making up to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines or about $44,100 a year for a family of four are eligible for this program.

If you are eligible, fill out an application with the organization that serves your county. Find a list of supporting organizations here.


Arkansas

Who: Arkansas Department of Human Services – Division of County Operatives
What: Funding is available for low-income families to weatherize their homes by installing measures that cut energy costs. Measures may include: replacing broken windows; caulking and weather stripping doors and windows; insulating ceilings, walls and floors; installing storm windows and thermostats; and repairing and cleaning heating systems.
How to apply:

Individuals and families making up to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines or about $44,100 a year for a family of four are eligible for this program.

If you are eligible, find the Local Community Action Agency that serves your county. Find a list of supporting organizations here.


New Mexico

Who: New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority
What:

Funding is available for low-income families to weatherize their homes by installing measures that cut energy costs. Measures may include: weather-stripping and caulking around doors and windows; replacing broken glass panes or windows; installing insulation, including on water heaters and in attics; tuning up, repairing, or replacing the furnace or heating unit; installing carbon monoxide detectors; replacing incandescent bulbs with CFL’s; or replacing a high-energy consuming refrigerator with an energy-efficient one.

How to apply:

Individuals and families making up to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines or about $44,100 a year for a family of four are eligible for this program.

If you are eligible, fill out an application with the organization that serves your county or Pueblo. Find a list of supporting organizations here.
