| What: | Accepting proposals to utilize the $373 million in stimulus funds to create healthier communities through sustainable, proven, population-based approaches such as broad-based policy, systems, organizational and environmental changes in communities and schools. |
| Goals | To support intensive community approaches to chronic disease prevention to achieve the following prevention outcomes: -Increased levels of physical activity; -Improved nutrition; -Decreased overweight/obesity prevalence; -Decreased smoking prevalence and decreased teen smoking initiation; and -Decreased exposure to secondhand smoke. |

Topics of discussion include: changes in eligibility requirements, competitive criteria, the overall structure and level of funding in the competitive grant programs, the extent to which comments submitted to the U.S. Department of Education were incorporated, and final timelines for applications, awards and implementation. |

| What: | Hosting a web page to provide information about Mississippi's project implementation and to reduce the period of time for publication and bid openings for any construction projects under the Federal Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. |

| Who: | New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority |
| What: | Funding is available for low-income families to weatherize their homes by installing measures that cut energy costs. Measures may include: weather-stripping and caulking around doors and windows; replacing broken glass panes or windows; installing insulation, including on water heaters and in attics; tuning up, repairing, or replacing the furnace or heating unit; installing carbon monoxide detectors; replacing incandescent bulbs with CFL’s; or replacing a high-energy consuming refrigerator with an energy-efficient one. |
| How to apply: | Individuals and families making up to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines or about $44,100 a year for a family of four are eligible for this program. If you are eligible, fill out an application with the organization that serves your county or Pueblo. Find a list of supporting organizations here. |
The New York City-based Open Society Institute has announced grants totaling $3 million to nonprofit organizations in six states working to bring transparency to the allocation of federal stimulus funds.
The federal government has paid out $216 billion, or 27 percent of the stimulus package. The money includes $132 billion in spending and $84 billion in tax cuts.
